Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London), was raised by the mother, her grandmother as well as her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. When she was a little girl, she struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder, and also suffered from anxiety because of the word"association. Ford's passion for acting started when she was young. She joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few days, she realized that Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place suitable for her. Ford later applied for a place for the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character in Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993, but she already had her TV debut on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. In the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre brought her into The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up humor that she started adding to her show in the year 1996, was soon gaining her admiration.
